STOCKHOLM: Two Swedish jail guards have been held hostage for 9 hours on Wednesday by two inmates demanding pizza as ransom, and have been launched when the meals was delivered, a spokeswoman for the penitentiary instructed AFP.
Neither guard “was hurt and were able to return safely to their family,” jail spokeswoman Stina Lyles mentioned.
The inmates, each doing time for homicide on the Hallby excessive safety jail close to the city of Eskilstuna, managed to power themselves into an space reserved just for guards at about 12:30 pm (1030 GMT), mentioned one other jail official, Torkel Omnell.
There, they took two guards hostage who have been within the space on the time.
“We quickly sent in a mediator” and known as the police, Omnell mentioned.
In keeping with Swedish media reviews, the hostage-takers made two calls for — a helicopter to flee and 20 pizzas for the opposite inmates.
“Yes, the pizzas were delivered,” jail spokeswoman Lyles mentioned.
The 2 inmates have been taken to the police station for questioning for “kidnapping”, police mentioned.
