Amid a worsening coronavirus scenario within the nation, PPP on Sunday stated it’s calling off a rally scheduled to happen on Monday as a part of the celebration’s marketing campaign for the NA-249 by-elections.

The celebration had made full preparations for the rally forward of the by-polls, wherein their candidate Abdul Qadir Mandokhel goes up in opposition to 29 different candidates.

The event follows a cancellation by the PML-N of the same marketing campaign rally, citing coronavirus considerations.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz was scheduled to reach on Saturday however the celebration introduced she’s going to now not be flying, shortly earlier than she was scheduled to make the journey.

ECP turns down request to defer polls

Three days in the past, the constituency’s district returning officer Nadeem Haider stated that the Election Fee of Pakistan had rejected a request made by PPP, MQM and PTI searching for a postponement of the NA-249 by-elections.

“There has been no change in the by-election date. The by-poll will be held on April 29,” stated the DRO.

The Sindh authorities, PTI and MQM in a letter to the Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP), had requested postponement of the NA-249 by-election till the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

The transfer was opposed by the PML-N.

The ECP has ordered strict implementation of coronavirus SOPs in the course of the by-polls in NA-249. Particular workers can even be deployed for implementation of coronavirus SOPs.
