MUZAFFARABAD: Political events have agreed on deploying Pakistan Military troops at polling stations for the July 25 Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Meeting election, The Information reported Wednesday.

The publication stated the choice was taken with the heads of all political events current at a high-level assembly of the Election Fee, with AJK Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Abdul Rashid Sulehria within the chair.

The individuals of the assembly had recommended to the AJK Election Fee that the deployment of the military be carried out at polling stations to take care of legislation and order on polling day.

Talking on the event, the CEC urged the heads of the political events to make sure the implementation of the code of conduct introduced by the election fee and make sure the peaceable conduct of the election.

A member of the election fee, Farhat Ali Mir, stated that the aim of the consultative assembly with the heads of political events was to hunt their opinion relating to the deployment of the military.

He added that the election fee had to this point taken strict motion in opposition to the violations of the code of conduct.

A decision relating to the deployment of the military on the polling station was additionally handed by the individuals.

AJK offers magisterial powers to military

In the meantime, on the election fee’s request, the AJK authorities had granted magisterial powers to military officers summoned on July 25 to help the electoral physique and administration in sustaining legislation and order on polling day.

Beforehand, it had been reported that the military can be on “standby” to help the conduct of the Common Election for the Legislative Meeting on July 25 after a requisition request for troops was made by the AJK Election Fee.

A notification by the Ministry of Inside dated July 8 states that it’s “pleased to authorise the deployment of Pakistan Army (standby) 1,600 x troops of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) at highly sensitive polling stations and 4,000 x troops of Frontier Constabulary for conduct of General Election of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly scheduled to be held on 25th July 2021”.
