KARACHI: For the first run through in quite a while history, Karachi Traffic Police is set to purchase breathalyzers to check liquor abuse in dubious drivers in the midst of a rising number of alcoholic driving mishaps that have caused numerous fatalities in the city.

DSP Saeed Arain, a managerial official at the DIG Traffic Police Office, said a delicate had just been glided for the breathalyzer packs and the buy will be finished after endorsement from the acquisition department.

In the primary stage, in any event 90 breathalyzers would be procured and given to staff sent in various pieces of Karachi.

Currently, cops utilize traditional techniques to decide if the driver is affected by liquor or not. The speculated drivers are taken to government emergency clinics where the medico-legitimate group conducts tests.

However, DSP Arain said this good old way left space for question as liquor doesn’t show in the tests after some time and the presumes use deferring strategies to guarantee a negative report.

“But, with the help of new technology, the police would be able to test drivers on the spot and issue challan or arrest them,” he added.
