
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court docket on Thursday rejected the appeals filed by the Sindh authorities and ordered to launch the prime accused within the homicide of Daniel Pearl.
The provincial authorities had approached the highest court docket in opposition to the order of the Sindh Excessive Court docket (SHC) overturning the conviction of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh within the 2002 homicide of American journalist in Karachi.
A 3-member bench of the SC headed by Justice Mushir Alam introduced the decision.
In April 2020, the SHC had overturned the demise sentence of Omer Sheikh and sentenced him to seven years in jail and acquitted three different accused — Fahad Naseem, Sheikh Adil and Salman Saqib — who have been earlier sentenced to life imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court docket (ATC).
After the SHC verdict, the Sindh authorities and household of Daniel Pearl filed petitions within the apex court docket.
