LONDON: Publishers of the Day by day Mail newspaper have paid damages and apologised to a British Pakistani couple for publishing an article which accused them of being dropped by the House Workplace, harassing and bullying their employees in addition to paying them low salaries.

British Pakistani cage fighter Usman Tahir Raja and his spouse Dr Angela Misra, who’re each counter-terrorism and extremism specialists, had sued the Related Newspapers Restricted on the London Excessive Courtroom for critical hurt to their popularity from a false article revealed on September 8, 2019 within the Day by day Mail titled “GP and ex-cage fighter husband accused of bullying and harassing firm’s low paid staff”.

The article alleged that Dr Misra and Raja bullied and harassed a few of their employees, with some consequently too frightened to take holidays or attend a household funeral and a few quitting their jobs.

It mentioned the couple acted in a prejudiced method by giving larger charges of pay to staff who have been devotees of the identical cleric Dr Misra and Raja adopted.

The article mentioned Raja leaked categorized data and consequently obtained a written warning from the UK House Workplace, banning him from performing his job giving one-to-one mentoring to extremists. The House Workplace had withdrawn future contacts from The Unity Initiative (TUI), it mentioned.

The actual story

Dr Misra and Raja had based an organization referred to as The Unity Initiative in 2009 to undertake de-radicalisation work, present academic coaching programmes for police, probation, jail employees and ship authorities consultancy providers to counter violent extremism.

In 2016, they have been supplied a contract by the UK authorities after a EU huge procurement train to supply mentoring providers to convicted terrorists – those that maintain an extremist interpretation of Islam.

TUI was supplied a renewal of its contract by the House Workplace in 2019 at larger charges, however TUI declined.

The couple was not dropped by the House Workplace not was Raja banned from working.

Mark Lewis of Patron Legislation, who represented the couple, mentioned the Related Newspapers Restricted has revealed a correction and apology on its web site and paid substantial damages to the couple. 

He mentioned: “It seems that it is far too easy to make false allegations against Muslims whenever the word “terrorism” is used with out checking the information. It results in traditional dog-whistle racism.”

“We’re more than happy to be vindicated by this consequence proving that the Day by day Mail article was false and libelous. Now we have spent our lives working for the eradication of hate and uniting folks throughout all divisions whether or not they be primarily based on religion, race or viewpoint,” learn a press release issued by the couple.

They mentioned there have been people who’ve tried maliciously to undermine their work.
